The first decade of Haines's career was spent at Chevron / Gulf Oil where he worked in three distinct areas: Research, Corporate Planning and Marketing. From the Corporate environment, he transitioned to Braxton Associates, a boutique strategy consulting firm. As a line partner, Haines focused on manufacturing entities across a wide spectrum of industries and eventually became the Managing Partner. In the early 1990s, Haines left consulting to become President and Board Member of a venture capital backed startup, Child Health Systems. Over a three-year period, they grew the firm significantly and eventually sold it. At that point, Haines returned to the consulting business as a Partner with Deloitte Consulting. Eventually, he became Managing Director for the Consumer Products and Retail Consulting Practice and a member of the Management Committee. Haines has been retired for nearly 15 years.
